Here are some fun facts about our favorite pups!
Alaskan Malamutes
- During World War 1, they were shipped to France to delier supplies to French army troops isolated in mountain outposts
- During World War 2, they were used to sniff for mines, carry weapons, and act as search-and-rescue dogs
- They're built to withstand cold temperatures, and were historically used in Arctic expeditions
- Their history dates back 5000 years ago, with the first settlers of North America keeping them as their companions and workdogs.
Siberian Huskies
- They are incredibly friendly
- They were developed as working sled dogs for thousands of years by the Chukchi people of northeast Asia
- According to Chukchi belief, these dogs guard the gates of heaven, turning away any who were cruel to animals
- In 1925, this breed brought lifesaving serum to fight a diphtheria epidemic in Nome, Alaska
Alaskan Huskies
- The Alaskan Husky is a mix of Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, German Shepherd, Saluki, and English Pointer. This makes them exceptional sled dogs.
- They have a self-cleaning coat that cleans debris trapped within
- They can run at an average speed of over 18 miles per hour
- They weigh between 40 and 60 pounds
